It's always amazing to think you're moving along on an evident route, in my case without a known destination but the route seemed clear. Then something happens that makes you raise your eyebrows and say "Okay!!" and the path becomes something quite different. That's what happened to me yesterday/last night.
John called yesterday to tell me an AF guy from Hurlburt Field had lost his leg in a motorcycle accident over the weekend. He forwarded the email he had received to me and I made some phone calls. I finally spoke to someone (Marty) at dinner time, he happened to be on his way to the hospital, the young man (Ron) was in surgery but Marty was going to sit with the family. I offered to talk to them anytime...he was going to ask them if and/or when they'd like that.
Marty called me at about 8 o'clock and said the family would like to talk to me as soon as possible. I headed to the hospital. We spent about two hours talking about what they might expect, what the future might hold, some options they and Ron had. It was a very positive discussion and I left feeling like I'd really helped them...something I couldn't have done from Bolivia. Interesting change in direction on that path I thought I was on.
Today was quiet. Since I didn't get home until about midnight, I went back to bed after dropping Jake off at school. Extra sleep helped so the rest of the day was just time to shower and read.
Still no word on our status. It's painful to keep repeating that...

You are where you were meant to be. I'm sure your experience and caring helped that family immensely and I'm so proud of you, my daughter.

It never ceases to amaze me that things happen that are meant to be. We talked about that with your friend and her family. Now this. Amazing.
